NJDOT University Heights Connector

Part of an urban renewal project, the NJDOT University Heights Connector Project included 2 lanes in each direction, a raised planted median, reconstructed sidewalks, bikeway and streetscape. The New Jersey Historic Preservation Office required full archaeological excavations on eight historic house lots in the limits of this project. IEW maintained all adherences to the culturally and historically sensitive aspects of this project. The final outcomes greatly improved motorist, pedestrian, bicyclist safety and traffic congestion in this gateway to Newark from I-280. The bikeway coordinated with the Newark Greenway Plan, which is a segment of the East Coast Greenway, a trail system extending from Maine to Florida.
